Rack and Pinion recommendation

Free play in my steering 1999 Grand Prix GT magnasteer rack. 170,000 miles. I have read reviews on remanufactures like Cardone and they are not good. Seems like the Racks carried by the auto stores are junk and tend to have problems like leaking. Some mechanics told me to stay away from remanufactured racks. They are all crap. New ones if you can find them are around $800.00.
Any one who can recommend a quality remanufacture? I asked if the preload can be adjusted and was told there is no adjustment onn this rack. Aside from the free play the rack is good. No leaks and all suspension parts are new.

A delco rack if you want the factory quality.

Otherwise if it was me, I wouldn't even replace the rack because the tie rods are tight and the thing isnt leaking.

did you check the tie rod ends yet? they will give you slop in the wheel easy.

racks are under 200 bucks rebuilt, im on a napa brand rebuild, so far so good. lots of guys use the cardon with no issues too

800 bucks is the price a shop gives when they dont want your business.

my last rack had internal play too. was a pita to check out, but i found my drifting issue. napa rack was 160 on sale. being it was the second rack i did it was less than 2 hours to swap it. first time 3 to 4 hrs.

inner tie rods also go bad and cause play. you need to get your eyes on things while pushing and pulling the wheels around.

and there is no adjusting these racks, its a rack not a steering box.
