Quick Strut Controversy - Solved?

I don't think the struts are bad.

There is a noticeable clunk if I shimmy the wheel at a stop and there is kind of a dead spot in the steering when driving at speed. There is not play if I quickly wiggle the wheels at top/bottom nor sides, but if I move the 3 and 9 position more slowly (but still forcefully) there is a weird play I can feel like there is slop in the rack. I had the car off the ground and had someone shimmy the wheel and there was a definitive clunk and I could definitely feel it when I held the inner tie rod but the sound was coming from the center of the rack. Not sure how to better diagnose whether a rack or inner tie rod. Ideas?

There is a bit of a fluid creep/leak but not enough that I would change the rack for that reason.
 


Price it out it is cheaper to buy the quick strut. If you want stock springs have the new spring swapped over to your old spring. Sell or throw away the new springs.
