questions: MP3 input on Bose 2000 GTP single disk (PAC/PIE?)

Hi -

I have a 2000 GTP with a single disk Bose system. I was thinking of these adapters for mp3 inputs since I figure replacing this stereo would mean I'd lose the factory amp, need additional equipment for the steering wheel controls, and the new stereo wouldn't look as good (imho)

Anyway, does anyone know how I can tell for sure I can use a PAC or PIE interface? I was thinking if I can't with this unit I could buy a used Delco stereo but then which one would work with my steering wheel controls and my amp?

I'd appreciate any expert opinions - I'm happy with the sound and looks of this system - just want mp3 input without R/F.

You will not lose the bose amp if you go with an aftermarket headunit. But yes you will need a steering wheel control adapter. I was looking for a ipod/mp3 player adapter as well. All I found was a wired RF type adapter. Post which one's you were looking at.

I've found 2 companies that manufacture ipod to OEM aux stereo inputs (usually this input is for a CD changer) - PAC and PIE

I don't have a PIE link handy for a 2000 GP but I think I saw a model.

I don't have the button that says CD/AUX on my stereo so I was thinking mine doesn't have the plug needed but I'm not sure - and if I do decide to buy a used delco stereo I dont know which ones will work with my steering wheel controls and amp.

In other cars I've owned I had to bypass the amp when installing the aftermarket stereo. But I also think the aftermarket head unit sticks out from the dash a good inch or so (unsure) either way if I can buy one of these AUX IN adaptors for my IPOD I'd just get that.

I was hoping someone else did this on their GP or if they could tell me which DELCO stereos I should look for ---

But you will lose the built in DSP that bose adds to the factory head unit. It actually has an EQ curve that changes with the volume knob. Other bose factory systems add more than just EQ. Anyways...it'll sound different.

I'm trying to do the same thing and it seems to me options are pretty limited if you don't have a CD Changer/Aux input.

The best option if you want to keep the stock head unit seems to be adding an aux input to it, like this:
