Questions involving 04-05 gen

Hey guys
Unfortunately after 172k miles, I can't keep my 98 GTP anymore. I'm doing too much highway driving and it needs too much repair work, combined with a lot of rust and decay - I got it at 159k, so I knew it's time was limited.

Anyway, I'm looking at the 04-05 gen GTP/GXP's, and I'm a bit confused on two things:
1. Nobody seems to have clear info on which cars in which trims require what fuel types. I read someplace that the GTP and GT's with the 3800 series III with the newer eaton blowers are tuned for 87 oct fuel, while the GXP requires 91/93 - is this true?
2. I'm getting mixed results on which cars have HUDs. From what I can tell, the base (GT1), GT(2), and GTP compG trims from 04-05 all have the HUD, while the GTP doesn't...but this makes no sense to me...if I was GM, I would most certainly have put the HUD in the regular GTP and skipped it on the base.
CompG's are hard to come by, so most of my searches have been on GTPs, but HUDs aren't very common on vehicles, so most car search algorithms don't include them as an option.

Has anyone driven the newer and older body style GTP's? I love the way my 98 drives - can anyone compare?

Thanks.

first off get a supercharged engine if you are planning on modding. there is little aftermarket support for the V8. also i would run premium fuel in both the GTP or GXP.

the drive is generally the same IMO but the interiors of the newer one are sportier

1. gtp/gxp both use 91/93
2. You can get the gtp with hud
3. I have driven both gens of grand prix I prefer the older ones.

Even though I really like my new GP, my 02 did have a more desirable handling. It would take a corner like a missile, and it would almost drive itself. My new one seems to sit higher, but the one thing it can do is take a pot hole very well.

1. run 91+ in gtp's and gxp's

2. HUD was an option for 04-05 all trims. 06+ I believe is not available for GP base or GP GT (make sure to know that 06-07 GT trims are supercharged) but seems like i may have seen it in GXP's.

3. 04+ looks way better, but for the sake of tuning ease get an 04 or 05.

Thanks for all the info, guys.

I'm sad to have to get rid of my older GTP, but it needs so much work I can buy a much younger one..

One day I know I'll find myself back behind the seat of one.
