Question about gas tank

OK first I read the manual and know it says it's a 17 gallon tank but I picked up a 2000 GTP about 2 weeks ago and filled up the tank and the needle went to a little over 3/4 tank so basically according to the DIC I've used 10 gallons right now (last fill up I used 11.4 according to DIC and was 11.9 to full tank).. Long story short I know it should have 17 gallons but I feel like 7 gallons is a bit much to be off by should I trust it and go to like 15 gallons according to DIC then fill it or should I fill it sooner? Thanks I know I can figure it out myself I'd just prefer not to run out of gas driving and have to deal with the headache not to mention running the pump dry

you got a bad sending unit on the fuel pump canister. when the low gas light comes on you should have about 3 or 4 gallons left. the government wanted it to be 100 miles left in the tank, we know thats a crock lol.

Yea but I've used 11 gallons according to the DIC right now.. it's usually off by 1/2 gallon so that's 11.5 right so basically I'm asking is it safe to say there's a 17 gallon tank in there and I can fill it at around 15 gallons? After this fill up I'm gonna know what I can get away with I'm at like 200 miles right now and I'm gonna keep track with a app also just incase and thanks

apps are not as good as old fashioned math.

fill the tank. set the trip or note the miles, then drive it till the gas is low, then re fill it, note the gallons added and divide the miles driven.

avg will vary a lot if your all hwy, or all local. math tells me i get 10 miles to the gal local driving only.

once the low fuel light is on it takes me 13 to 15 gallons to full. thats your 3 to 4 gallon reserve when the light first comes on.
