Putting Venturi canister into non venturi car

So I'm putting a Venturi canister from a 2000 GTP with a 255 into my GT which is a 2002 Non venturi. I know the pump tops are different and they are clocked differently. I read a thing about trimming a tab on the venturi pump and it should fit right on top of a plastic tank but looking at them more the orings sit differently on the tops. Anyone ever done this before or know if it will seal ok with either the oring or the bigger gasket like I have in the pic. The non venturi pump is from my friends 2002GTP which is an aftermarket unit by the looks of it so I can't swap the tops like I was hoping to do.

As for trimming I thought i read you trim this tab sticking up so the lock ring can spin on it to secure it because the venturi style uses a snap ring.

Ahh ok, I'll have to try to find a stock top and try to swap em or pull mine out to sacrifice.
