Problems with AC on 2000 GP

Hello All,

New to the site, hope I am posting in the right section.

My wife has a 2000 Grand Prix GT, the air conditioning has been acting up. We have the dual climate control set up, and the car blows cold air on passenger side and luke warm on the drivers side. I know the first reaction will be that the system is low on freon, but it isn't and it is charged correctly. There is another twist to this. On the dual climate control interface, when the unit is idle it displays an exterior temperature. Yesterday the readout read 88 degrees which it was and the air worked perfectly today, it reads 44 degrees and it is near 90 and the air is working perfect on the passenger side and warm on the drivers side. What can be my issue here? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your ambient air temp sensor behind your grill is intermittently giving incorrect readings (not uncommon). The system uses that signal to control the automatic air. If it thinks it's only 44 degrees outside it won't blow as cold as if it thinks it's 90 degrees outside. I'd replaced that sensor, most likely that's all you need.

Thanks! Anyone have a part number and know exactly where the sensor is and what it looks like? Thanks.

Yes, I also need to know where this sensor is and what it looks like. Anyone? I think the shop that put my bumper on forgot to plug it in because now it says nothing but 50 degrees all the time. I really hope it's just unplugged.
