Problem with brake safety switch

Had to replace the motor on my 02 Grand Prix GTP. Finished the install and it runs great, only problem now is that when i press the brake the safety switch does not automatically disengage. I have to manually press the release to allow the car to go into gear. Where should i start to look for a problem? Thanks!!
