Prime oil pump after timing gasket replacement?

Hi All,

New poster here, been reading for a while.

I have a 2007 grand prix, 3.8l not supercharged. It's leaking coolant from the timing cover. I've checked and double checked everything, and have verified that is where it's leaking.

I am wondering if there is really a need to prime the oil pump when doing this? I've seen some people say to leave it alone and not open it up, the torx screws that hold it together can cause a problem. Others say just fill the oil filter.

The threads that I have read here all say to remove the passenger engine mount...I took a look, and I wonder if the 2007 is different, as it didn't really look like I need to remove it?

I'd just replace the gasket and start it up, there is no need to prime the pump.

There is still going to be oil on all the bearings, this isnt a fresh rebuild.
 
Since you're changing the oil too (have to as coolant will get down in the pan) I'd just prefill the oil filter. It's not priming but it gets oil to the bearings much sooner in those first few seconds.
