Prevailing Wage

So I just found out in Ohio prevailing wage is $33.88 an hour or something like that... thats some good money to me. The point is I just worked on a job where my employer had to pay me that... now they only have to pay it while I'm on the job site which for this job was 9 hours so thats $304.92 and then I had 1.15 hours for time in the shop and on the road which is only $11.50 since I'm only part time. But thats a total of $316.42 before taxes... not bad for one days work.

So why is this a rant? because the state is in crazy debt their cutting education like crazy and to begin with teachers salary doesn't even come close to prevailing wage unless the teacher has been teaching for 20+ years. Now I love the fact that I got paid close to $35/hour for waxing floors but I can't help feeling like someones getting cheated... But I've also decided for $1,500 a week I'd be a good goverment employee lol

$35 a hour are you kidding me. You honestly make in one day about %70 of what I do in a week!!! I get it your ranting about the state paying out to much for certain jobs. I wouldnt turn it down it offered but his pretty much just irritates me. Illinois is the same way probably wayyy worse than Ohio too cuz of all the corruption. Anyway DAMIT

Yea I wouldn't turn it down but I think its a little messed up lol all I know is this next pay check should be able to get most of what I need to finish my top swap lol

And Im saving for months for just a tune. I need a new job. To many "people" willing to work for nothing means everyones wages go down.

It's not just that. Companies know the job market is down so they know they can pay a low wage because there's tons of people who have to take it. They've got us by the balls right now. Hoping to hell the job market flips and they start having to offer a competitive wage to attract folks.

It was happening wayyyy before the down job market. Its a issue with "certain" people willing to work for crap and taking away a decent American way of living. That is the issue. I work with alot of these people and they laugh at our country and all of us. To them lkiving in our hell is there heaven well since they also get all the goverment assistance they could ever want. It wont matter if the job market gets better they will still be able to pay much less than before. It screws everyone in the end. Only certain job sectors will be safe-ish from this. Im pretty passionate about this topic.

Either way yes our states/country piss our money away and that was the OP point so I agree with you there.

Prevailing wage is $60 /hr here in NJ. If I was offered a job would I take it, yes. But I would have to work my butt off to feel like I was worth it. Sickens me when I see the road construction workers standing there with a shovel doing nothing at all while 1 guy is working his butt off. I was working so I couldn't do it, but I offered my friend a job at prevailing wage. He could of done it, but he didn't want to be part of the problem so he turned it down. Would of been almost $30k in 3 months.

It did make me feel like I was cheating somebody some where, and when you seal floors you sit around doing nothing inbetween coats for an hour or 2 waiting for it to dry... so I feel like I did about $100 bucks of work for over $300

that's what the unions do for ya, make the price of job sky high so they can pay outrageous salary's.

i love the road crews, 6 guys, 1 in a hole digging slowly/helping the back hoe, 4 other watch. id loose my mind wasting 8 to 10 hrs a day like that.

Unfortunately lots of people think that way, it's not just in unions, it's everywhere. The guys standing around are the exception, not the standard and I can't/won't defend them. Their job just happens to be hugely in the publics eye. Every work palce in america has them, even if you don't see them. People see a union as a "private club" that you pay to get in, pay a percentage while your in, plus yearly dues, ect.. In return you get a great paying job that you just have to show up for and do nothing.. Bull****. In essence it's like our group buys here. The more people you get interested the better the outcome. Training, safety, income, insurance and retirement. Thats what gets me out of bed everyday. I take pride in my job. Full days work for a full days pay and everybody goes home safe. Do you think anyone would pick a contractor without knowing the quality of work they are receiving? I wouldn't. Some times half price means half ass. I'm not here to kick rocks and start a pissin match, just wanted to give my .02
Thanks

if you ask me the unions are killing this country, and its not because we think they all just stand around, that's the road crews only, i know lots of union working people and they do work their balls off.

why should a job cost 2 or 3 times what a non union job cost to complete, the workers are the same, one gets 18 bucks an hr, and the union guys get 30 plus.

here an example: you got 100,000 square foot roof lets just say its a 300,000 dollar job, now make it a school aka public bid work, now that same roof costs 600,000 or more and why???? because the union needs to keep alive. not to mention all the down time union workers have, most work from job site to job site, no new work, you stay home and don't get paid.

sure you get a pension, and benefits, but you are paying for it, nothing is free. just like a non union job.

and lets face it the mob runs most of the unions anyways, all corrupt chit.
