I will have pics of this soon as I had to change mine out 2 days ago.....nothing like -5* ouside!!!

and question how d you guys get all your info in your sig i can not get all mine to go in keeps tling me to many lines

we're special:D. jk. it will allow up to 6 lines. I just copid and pasted my entire list of mods..and started to delete it..until it finally took it. and this is what I have left.

is the pump whining? or a belt sqeel?

well its not a belt and i am not sure if its the pump yet. have not had a chance to get it in the garage. But it does it at idle and then when i get on it it gets louder. And yes it is full of fluid. I am just hoping that it is that and nothing else

the PS steering pump is held on by 2 12mm bolts(if memory serves me correctly). you have to go through the PS pulley with a socket in order to get to them.

12. put everything else back on(including PS cap)....start vehicle...turn wheel left and right 5 more times, turn off vehicle. recheck fluid level. recheck PS lines for leaks. if no leaks are found, great job, now put the old pump back in the box, and return it for a core charge. and grab a bear and sit down. like to add, if you have small hands....this job should not be a problem...

The bolts are 13mm and what part of the bear do we grab? ;)

And for any torque/ft-lb nazi's out there, the bolts are 25 ft lbs.

I'm sorry if bumping threads is against the rules (I didn't see a ruleset anywhere) -- but I'm likely going to tackle this over the weekend on my 03 GT. Is rocking the motor forward necessary?

A bit of info -- I took it to the shop because of a belt squeak. They were "positive" it was the belt tensioner, so I replaced it. It wasn't. Looking down while the engine is running the only pulley that rocks back and forth is the PS pulley, leading me to think the bearings are shot. It's a intermittent squeak, not a constant one. My thought is to remove the belt then check for play in that and the A/C unit (the alternator is fine). Thoughts? I've never done a PS pump before, and I don't want to replace the wrong part yet again. That was a 100.00 mistake that I should have thought of sooner.

when i start my car up in the morning it squeals im pretty sure its a belt i think the ps belt. it goes away once the car is warmed up. sometimes my power steering goes out and comes back when i give it a little gas and then you can hear the pump squeal when i turn. does that mean i need a new pump and belt?

My 07 GT did that. Dealer installed a new Pump been quiet since. New pump is the only fix don't kid yourself. Belts not a factor unless its really worn.

Most Grand Prix r the same from 97-05 or 06 really with the ps... And if its whining it your ps pump man.. heres what u do go to a junk yard and see if u can find a 3800 engine pulled out and get the pump. in indiana it like 22 bucks, jus make sure it looks decent. but if u gotta order one, it only 2 13mm bolt that hold it on, they are directly verticle from each other. get a socket and extension and go through the holes in the pump to get to the bolts.

side note: take the belt off, and the coolant bottle (99+) and to get it out, you'll have to take the first hose goin to the engine (farest to the left) supply's coolant to your engine. some will spill out, its ok, jus make sure your engine is cool, otherwise you'll burn the crap outta ur hands. have any questions post em on there. jus did mine, turn a 257.99 problem, into a 22.99 problem doin it myself

or just throw the coolant tank to the side without disconnecting any hoses lol. i'm lazy :p

i got a used pump from morad for $30 bucks. cheapest solution. works like a charm.
