Power steering or tensioner pulley making loud rattling noise??

Hey guys I recently developed a loud rattle/chatter/knocking only at idle. It sounds like it's coming from either the tensioner of ps pump. The tensioner is also jumping around a pretty good amount which I think is weird because the supercharger tensioner doesn't jiggle at all.

Rattle only at idle suggests a bad supercharger coupler... You might already know that though.
Take off the belt for the s/c and listen if the rattle continues. You can run it without the belt for a few minutes.
 
I have already tested everything and it is something in the accesory belt. I also just had the snout rebuilt so it is not that unfortunately.

take the belts off, then fire it up. if the sound is gone its some thing on the front of the engine, if its still there you got bigger issues.

could be the ac compressor grinding to its death. wd-40 can shut it up, but in the end it would need a new clutch.
 
I have already ran it with both belts off and the noise goes away. I should mention the a.c. compressor I just replaced maybe 2 months ago the water pump was replaced a year and a half ago and at the same time the tensioner was replaced. All pulleys spin freely. There's only 2 things that seem odd to me. First the accessory tensioner has a lot of movement in it which I'm not sure is normal because when I look at the supercharger tensioner it doesn't move around at all. The second thing is when moving the power steering pump pulley back and forth it makes a little rattle. Almost similar to when a supercharger coupler is bad.

if its bouncing hard at idle, its shot or the belt is. to replace it your changing the alt bracket, its a all in one pos unit.

if you look at it, in the ring is marks to show wear. pb is acting up or id post a pic of it.

Ok well I just replaced my power steering pump and although it was shot and everything runs a lot better now the rattle noise it still there. Although while under the car it sounded like it was coming from the hb. The rattle is only at idle and once under load it goes away. Does that sound like a hb problem. Also my hb has little crack and for some reason I can't get the sc belt to sit right. You can see in the picture

looks like you found your issue. time to replace that. was this a junk yard engine? odd its got yellow writing on it.

what year is this car? and why does it look like the frame is cracked? bottom right of the pic. dark line that turns to the top, not sure if its a shadow. or a splash shield or a bracket, lol just looks odd to me.
 
So that's a bad crack then? Haha no the engine is original with 108k on it. That is the hb I got off a gtp when I top swapped

i cant tell if its a splash shield or not.

take a closer look at it in the day light. its all dirty and hard to tell exactly whats what in a pic.
 
I meant on the hb. Whatever your seeing is just a shadow or splash guard I would have seen a crack that was bad haha. The cars never been in an accident before either

blancer looks to be busted, would explain all the shaking and clunking sounds. id not drive on that. if you still got the l36 balancer you can pop that on till you get a new l67 blancer, no boost is a bummer, but f it, better safe.
 
Hmm ya it's more of a rattle but I just ordered a new balancer from pep boys. Only 71$ I should have it tomorrow.

Hey Scotty or anyone. The three bolts to pull off the harmonic balancer are m8x1.25 right?
