Power steering Oddity... Has this ever happened to you?

***WARNING: This is a bit of a rant and the point of the thread is to get your opinion on the situation. Your input is very welcomed and appreciated =D!***

So the other day my car decided to break more stuff as it usually likes to do...

This time it was the power steering. For the second time in my owner ship. My aftermarket exhaust has managed to Burn through the metal on the power steering line... the first time it was Approximately 8 months ago. It first only melted through the high pressure line. I took it to a shop, the did it for $300 and i called it a day.

This time.... It managed to melt through both the high and low pressure line -___-. Soo with that in mind (Insert rant after): WHY IN THE WORLD DID GM PUT POWER STEERING LINES OVER A PIECE OF METAL THAT REACHES EXTREME TEMPATURES?!?! Who at the design room thought this was a great idea *mad face, Rant end*

Anyways... in the end, I want to know what you think of this scenario and have you ever heard of it occurring (or am i alone?!). My theory for the cause is failing motor mounts and the motor sagging on to the lines.
 


Perhaps your exhaust is way way closer to the tunnel wall than from the factory, if thats the spot you are talking about.

My aftermarket headers have been on for over 2 years and no issues with burning power steering lines.

Personally I'd fix your exhaust before we blame GM for the problem that you exhaust has made.
 
Yes indeed the spot im talking about... where the metal portion of the line crosses over the tunnel wall.

The crappy thing is that the previous owner installed the exhaust so i have no clue on its specs and what not.

Furthermore,
Your right, im just ticked a little. Just Aesthetically, im thinkin it is not exactly an ideal design to put crucial lines over a flaming metal pipe lol.
 
Wrap the line in header tape, and the exhaust pipe in that area.

Or find something to shield the line some, be in wrap, paint, make something from sheet metal.

Always know the right things to say! I was considering doing that the first time it burned the line... Im now regretting it now! Im definitely going to go with the header tape i saw at the parts store earlier. Already ripped the new lines from A 97 GTP at the junkyard (was easy, had no motor lol). Going to tape them before they go into the black turd.
 
Picture please. The only thing that goes over the exhaust is your right front brake line. Power steering lines are below it and if your exhaust is hitting those, then we should be looking at your motor mounts that hold the top of your motor forward. Because that brings the back of the exhaust up and off those lines.

Take a picture of the exhaust though.. let'd ID it .
 
Fml... I never did get the top motor mounts mounted right after my accident -____- (the bolts that hold mounts into the rad support havent been tightened (bc they were stripped in accident) in the two weeks i have been driving them) . It all makes sense now.

Will lift it up tomorrow and take pics!
 
I would buy new mounts then, I got some for $14 at a junkyard here. Or is it the bolts that go into the rad support not the brakets?
 
Two bolts go into the mounts, the other two into the support.

A tap and die set would clean this right up.

PS.. sorry for knowing the answer. You are probably not liking me as much these days huh?

Will try the tap and die with my friend...

Furthermore... Pics as promised, trying my best to get the best angles.







As you can see the lines are super closely on the exhaust.

Bolts that go on top of the motor mount... the ones into the support on the bottom are ok... but will just tap and die them like Billboost said.
 
Does the center of your sway bar touch the exhaust? it lookw like it's pointing upward. You can fix that by flipping the bar.

Is that big dumb clamp rubbing on the PS?
 
I think the sway bar may be rubbing as well. Don't feel like flipping it... Im planing on selling the car in a few months anyways.

And not sure... i think so 0.o. would you like for me to get a different but particular angle/picture?
 
No, flipping a sway is easy in comparison to what you've already done. If you don't care enough for a few months to spend an hour fixing a horrible vibration/noise..I'm done as well.
 


So Today I fixed my power steering lines =D! WOOT WOOT!

I even rerouted the pressure line away from the exhaust!

But i came across a problem... one random piece of metal line fell out in the process. I have no clue what it is or where it goes.... But it had power steering fluid dripping from it when i found it on the ground. Help me out please:
