Power Steering Fluid

My car has had a slight whine since I bought my car over a year ago, 2008 3.8L NA, and it gets worse when I rev it (Park, N, or Drive), and especially when I make a turn while moving too fast. Checked the power steering fluid recently and it's barely even registering on the bottom of the dipstick... so Im assuming that's the issue :p.

Anyways, the manual says specific GM fluid should be used in there, I bought some Prestone stuff that says it's ok for GM vehicles telling myself, "Ofcourse it's ok, duh." But now that Im going to be topping it off tomorrow, the thoughts of my entire steering system exploding and needing to have it replaced are beginning to flood in, lol.

So just to ease my mind, the regular Prestone Power Steering Fluid is ok to use in my car, right? :th_nervous:

Also, I've been thinking about just sucking all the fluid I can get to in the reservoir out of there and replacing the whole reservoir worth while Im at it. I imagined just using a plain old turkey baster from the kitchen, and then just buying a new baster. However, I've been to some sites that say very specifically NOT to do that. Is it really true I need to buy a special tool that's almost the same thing just to remove some fluid from the reservoir?
