post-carpet install 2004GTP TRIM question...

hey guys. i had the dreaded XM / cabin air filter splash guard leak during a hurricane here in Florida. needless to say my car flooded so i tore everything down and dynomatted the whole interior. RTV'd the XM. Got PN# 15794785 - DEFLECTOR. ordered premium carpet with mass backing from stockinteriors.com. great quality, fast shipping. due to the thicker carpet, many of the tolerances were tighter and installing this set was a royal pain in the d*ck. on to the question:

everything is back together. i just cannot get the trim pieces which cover the seatbelt pillars to go back in (b/t the driver and passenger doors) seriously, its ridiculous. there are 4 snaps and it should just line up and go in. everything else snapped into place with a little attitude adjustment, but these; nope.

is there a sequence involved? i tried doing them first, last, second, whatever. they won't line up and are hard to install even with the carpet out of the way. WTH??

any thoughts? anything? after a 6 hour carpet install i'm 98% finished after about 50 adjustment cuts; i just want these to go back in place!

the pins are fine, i checked them. it's just getting them to line up, that is the problem. that piece just will not go in.
