Hey all, I don't have the car yet.. but after doing a bit of digging into these cars, ive found out a lot i didnt know! I always thought they were heavier than 3500lbs... and I had no idea they were as cheap to mod as they are. I was looking into an srt8 charger for 17k CND (good price overall for what you get) but now im steering towards one of these. I've always loved sleepers (my first car was a 90 civic hatch that i kept looking 100% stock, other than a 170hp b16a2 motor...and ran 14.17@98mph) and this car seems to fit that perfectly (especially since the catback is good enough for 350whp)

I currently live in northern BC and am looking at buying an 07 grand prix GT with 145k km for 6000 cnd.

Ive read the thread "safely modding your 3800 powered car" and had a couple questions.

For the 3.25 pulley.. is a cam A MUST? the way its worded is a bit confusing, if you do the intercooler and rockers is that good enough? plus supporting mods (tstat, header, cat, intake, pcm etc)

and 2, I keep seeing the mods for up to an 05... can the 06-07 be modded as well? (pcm wise, 3800performance says "coming soon")

anyway, pretty excited to get this thing, ive been good and saved and invested for 5 years, driving a bone stock civic... time to have some fun... with something i fit in (6'5 240) :P

bit tipsy and excited, sorry if some of it doesnt make sense!
 


Yes 2006 and 2007 can be modded, it would require using HP Tuners as that is the only software that is able to tune those vehicles. Some have swapped in 2004 and 2005 computers but some things read backwards like the fuel gauge.

A 3.25 is way small of a pulley and not something you can just jump straight to. You are new and likely haven't read about the difference between the GEN 3 supercharger from 95-03 and the GEN V blower from 04-07. The modding thread was built around the GEN 3 blower which is not as good as the GEN V, thus the GEN V requires a larger pulley to get the same power/boost from.

So a 3.4 on a GEN V is like a 3.2 on a GEN 3. If you do wish to up the boost start with the standard 3.6 pulley as that would be like the standard 3.4 setup on an older car.
 
thanks for the info, I didnt know that there was that much difference between the two superchargers. SO, I still have a question, assuming supporting mods, is a cam required for the 3.4 pulley? I am ready to spend the money required, im just wondering if a cam is part of that.... thanks for your help so far.

No a cam isn't required for any pulley drop.

A some point the stock cam will just stop making power and adding boost becomes pointless and it can't flow anymore air. Figure around the 280-300whp mark at a estimate, which is alot of power over the factory 200-215whp they put down.

Remember 3.4 = 3.6 for a 04+ car.
 
alright, so can a 3.6 make 300whp on a 06-07?, I probably havent been super clear so let me try again

If i do everything (headers, no cat, tstat, rockers, intercooler,pcm etc) what kind of power can i expect)... 3.4 on an 06-07

As said, no pulley swap requires a camshaft upgrade. Cam upgrades are only if you want more power than the stock cam can give or to get more out of a certain setup. They are not required but are an option if you wish to do it.

No a 3.6 will not make 300whp, not enough boost with a big pulley like that. A standard 3.6 (3.4) setup is maybe like 30-40hp over stock with various other mods like a headers, power log/downpipe combo. A 3.4 with the same mods might get you another 15-20 but it always varies from car to car.

At that point you want an intercooler and be in the range of like a 3.2 to 3.0 to make close to that 270-280+whp on your car. Also by this time you are going to be lucky if the stock transmission is still living. Anything past a 30-50hp bump in power is already in that "how long will it last" area. For some it's a while and for other it's not very long.
