Ported heads....need some suggestions

Hoping some people can chime in with some suggestions for ported heads for my setup.

As of right now I'm on stock heads, mods are:

105 springs
modded retainers
xp cam
S2 IC
tog headers
stock rockers
80lbs injectors on E85

I'm considering some ported heads at this time, what does everyone suggest?
  • What should I have done? stage 1, 2, 3?!?!
  • Change springs?
  • retainers?
  • valve seals?
  • Larger exhaust or intake valves??
  • Should I go with L32 heads or stick with L67?
  • Is their any specific years where the heads were better? L67 or L32?

- stages dont matter, youre taking it to a shop. get the intake and exhaust ports ported, the bowls polished, and a GOOD valve job (stock is 3 angle).

- what cam are you running? if youre sticking with the xp then why are you even porting your heads? this will determine springs.

- viton seals

- larger valves are useless for you. youre not even remotely close to needing bigger valves, especially with only an xp.

- i would start with L32 heads just because of the slightly larger intake valves and they'll most likely be way more fresh.

ur a jerk Kfish! LOL

Bio: I'm thinking about possibly going with an XPZ cam with this new setup

Get an L32 head, flows better, bigger valve.

Then have it hogged out, and the valve guides milled 0.100" so you have clearance for almost any cam you would want to run (0.600" lift)

Early year L67 heads were prone to cracking between the valves IIRC. Not sure on what cracked but i know they cracked.... Intense doesnt accept them for castings/cores.

Take your heads to a good shop and have them port them bring a set of intake gaskets so they can match them. Have the valve guides milled down, new seals, valve job, what ever springs you need and you are good to go.

The best heads in the industry are the ones that still retain close to the stock port shapes. Hogging them out nets no gains...one good quote I was told in Branson by a certain guy..."No matter what, it is a boosted car...the air is going to get out reguardless". Cop, if you look in my build thread (search "bluegtp91's build") about halfway through, I think like page 12+...I've got pics of the heads I had done at my machine shop. Backwoods shop that has been doing it for generations...I bet my heads, for the money...MORE than get the job done. I used Viton Seals, Comp Locks, Manley #130's, Titanium Retainers, new OEM valve guides, L32 valves, and had those guides machined down .100" for the higher lift. The XPZ is proven to go great with a JinnyFive combo too...if you look in the highest horsepower lists on CGP from the old school guys, they constantly make over 400 FWHP with a L36 bottom end, heads, GenV, IC, XPZ...with the proper tuning of course ;)
