The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
I have 2 jl audio 10w1v2 i want to put in a custom build ported box.. wanting to know if anybody has had these in a ported box or a sealed box what is the best sounding one of the two.. i have an 06 grand prix gt
Its all up to you. I prefer sealed boxes myself. Much more of a flat bass responce. Ported is definantly louder. However, you will have a much louder spl at certain frequencies, while others will fall out. I listen to all types of music. So, a sealed box is a must for me.
i listen to alot of music as well.. what would be a good size box for these i know what jl recommends but what do people with incar experience have to say
Ive never owned JL, however, my friend had w 12" w0 subs hooked up in an old school PRO ROCKS BOX with a little over 1cuft per sub. Sounded really good when powered by a rockford 300.2
I like sealed boxes as well. Ported is louder, but from my understanding, you dont have as much control over the woofer. Sealed takes more power to get the same results as a ported but is often a cleaner sound.
3/4" Mdf will be plenty thick for the box. You should be fine with up to a 1.5 cu ft box for 2 10s. The bigger the box the more BOOMY the sound. More lows but less mid-higer bass frequencies. If you choose, you can place a divider in the middle of the box so each woofer has its own enclosure.
[h=2]Enclosure Compatibility[/h] Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size recommended by JL Audio is 0.625 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 16.5" W x 13.5" H x 7.75" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) Recommended Ported Box Volume:The ported box size recommended by JL Audio is 1.00 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 18" W x 13.25" H x 13.5" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A slot port is recommended with the following dimensions:
Slot Width =1.0"
Slot Height = 11.75"
Slot Length = 29.0" (a right angled port with a 13.75" extension)
If it was just a sealed box and it's response being tested...then it's closer to flat without hassle vs. ported. But we're putting a box inside a box(car). The second box, our car, is creating those peaks. That's why car audio = trail and error. Every car(box) is a different shape :/
