• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Pontiac Guy-Just added a 06 GXP to my collection

Hello all. I love the style Pontiacs have. I have owned many T/A's throughout the years but now I'm down to a 2001 WS6 and just added a 2006 GXP to the stable as a daily driver. Bought the car last week 70,XXX miles and so far just the motor strut/mount is the only thing I need to fix. After reading many posts I will add a trans cooler but not going Hog Wild, that's what the WS6 is for.:th_winking:

Working on the tune. So the spark plug that's common on this site is the TR6IX. Is it really that better than original plugs?

Colder plugs and 91+ octane fuel are the best for the LS4. You can stick with OEM and be fine, but cooler plugs can help reduce kr and running 91+ is better for it.

Kinda like guys with the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 and 6.0's, they tend to run TR5's or TR6's when modding.

Thanks for the info. It's my daily driver so I'm not going to mod it, I like it the way it is so I'll probly go with the TR5's and 91 octane. This car is just so comfortable and fun to drive, great car...

Your gonna want a shift kit, tune, trans cooler and pan drop to keep it reliable and from grenading the trans. Its part of the "GXP Commandments" 91 made lol.

Yup

Unless you want to do trans work..

The GXP trans tend to get hot you'll want a trans cooler and it's always a good idea to do a pans drop and add a shift kit.

It's rather inexpensive and will help your transmission last.

Im not a GXP guy so im not sure about the tune but, the trans stuff should be on a to do list.

I put a transmission cooler (last year) and a shift kit (last week) in my base model grand prix. Each took me about a half day but I work slowly and carefully. I'd recommend both based on the advice I've seen here and also with the results I've seen with it as my DD/OnlyDriver.

trans cooler at least youll want, especially with summer coming up. the tune will disable DoD which will lessen your gas mileage, but it will also make sure you arent burning oil, and itll help save your torque converter.

I found that DoD at least on my gramps avalanche is useless unless its level ground unless it works better in GPs because they aren't as heavy.

when I turned my dod off and loaded diablos 91tune went from 15 to 18 mpg in the city. Might want to scan if you go this route. My car was 10 points lean so i had to adjust the injector slope to correct this. At light cruise fuel trims are spot on, but at idle its a bit rich. At the end of the day im saving money so cant complain.

Thanks for all the input guys. I will start with the tune and then pan drop and cooler. There are some good threads in here for DIY stuff!

Well the Trans went Tits up! That didn't take long. So the deal is, I had the car 10 days and the trans blew and I had bought the extended warranty just because I was concerned about the trans. Well in the FINE PRINT of the extended warranty contract it doesn't take affect for 30 days from purchase of the vehicle...WTF! So I call the dealer I bought the car from first and they initially told me that I bought the car AS IS with no warranty. So after transferring me around from person to person at the dealer the car has been towed back to them and they did pay for towing and offered a rental so it sounds like they are going to honor this trany but I'm still waiting for a phone call one way or the other.
