Police / Taxi anyone?

03 GTP, 125K mi. Desperately needs new shocks, f & r. DD on some mean city streets, lowering would be great but doesn't seem practical. I've decided, for what I can get for the $ & time, it just makes sense to me to go with a complete assembled strut. I'm tired of driving a car that handles like a ski boat. Looking for a ride that will hold the road without shaking my teeth loose.

I love my GP, truly, but think Pontiac let us down in their suspension design. I've been trying to compare GP shocks w/ other W body set-ups. I have OE 16" torque 5 stars wheels but plan to get 18" wheels so I can get 13" brakes. So I looked for models that offered 17"/18" wheels that used same strut top mount, like later S/Cd MC & Imp, but have not been able to find complete strut for 17"/18" wheels. Additionally, from what I can tell, my 03 GTP has the (badly worn) GM fe3 suspension, & what I want is the GM fe4, but the fe4 had larger wheels, therefore, as far as I can tell, complete struts are unavailable.

I've noted that manufacturers like; Monroe, KYB, Raybestos, MOOG, have struts that fit range of W Body. One fitment sticks out and generally is model specific, the 04+ Imp Police / Taxi. (not available thru KYB).

Has anyone tried these 04+ Impala police/taxi complete struts on 98-03 GTP?

Thanks

The impala police/taxi complete struts are more expensive than other W-body, including Intrigue.

Really, depends on which manfacturer you like, e.g. I'm not sure KYB has a complete strut for the Intrigue?

It all got too frustrating for me--manufacturers will not give up specific info, e.g. spring rates, ride height relative to O.E. B.S., manufacturer sells same part for G.P.s, impalas, Regals, Monte Carlos, etc.... which I am 99% sure do not all have same O.E. strut/coil, but when I call them I can't get a straight answer to simple questions. They just say, use recommended replacement part & they void warrenties for all none O.E. type uses...

I say, I am not trying to restore my ride/handling to be like new, I want it better than new.

Anyway, I gave up on trying to find affordable, better than O.E. quality, complete strut. I'll just do front and back separate when I have the $ to get what I want.

I hope you have more luck than me...
