po410 WTF!!!

My GP shot code po410 which is the air pump system so went ahead and replaced the pump cleared the code by disconnecting the battery all was fine for about 50 miles then engine light came back on bought a code reader and the magical po410 is back any suggestions?

The P0410 code refers to the emissions system. The AIR pump puts air to the exhaust to lower emissions. It takes in outside air and pumps it through two one-way check valves into each bank of the exhaust.

About 90% of the time that this code is set, the one-way check valves have worn out or failed and allow water (which occurs naturally in the exhaust) back into the pump. In any cold climate, especially in climates with higher humidity, this water may be more excessive. The water partially fills the AIR pump, it can then freeze. When the PCM commands the pump on, if the pump is frozen it cannot turn, thus overloading the circuit and "popping" the fuse.

Perhaps see if anything with the check valves are an issue.

the other way to fix this is to just delete it and have the code set to not report by someone who can tune the car.
how do I do this? I have not noticed the car runs any different either way.The other bummer is I just spent $115 on a new pump.I don't have emissions inspection where I live but the light is real annoying, maybe some electrical tape????!!!

you need to find someone with a tuning program. they can then set the code to not report, then you take the pumps and all its crap out and seal off any air lines.

theres a few guys in OH, who could do it, not sure whos in the middle of PA. you may be in for a litle car ride to get it done like that.

or you can take your pcm out of the car send it off to zzp, <<yuck. or another vendor and they could set the pcm up as well. with a tune as well.

or try reptile http://www.grandprixforums.net/showthread.php?t=80167&highlight=reptile hes a mod here and works on 3800 and tunes them. if hes got the time mail order works too.

does nobody like ZZP? I would love to block the AIS system as I have said b4 2 of my bikes have it eliminated with no downside at all just one less thing to break and screw with.

their canned tunes are not liked at all.

id try reptile first if you cant find a local with in driving distance. he does canned tunes as well and could tweak your pcm for better performance even tho your stock. and delete codes.

I already pm'd reptile.Im guessing by canned tunes you mean just a bunch of generic model specific not the actual car they will be going on since each car is different even being the same model

canned tune is a pre set log of settings thats is known to work in your year car. every car is a bit different that being said a in car tune is always best so its tailored to your car.

theres not a whole lot they can do to pep up a stock engine, but gm did set them up on the weak side and left some power off.

he can also change the trans settings for quicker firmer shifts.

or he could do nothing but delete that code from coming back ever. and call it a day. you dont "have" to get a tune.

Im still trying to figure why this keeps throwing this code.Im on my second air pump and I found a diagram of the whole air injection system and it does not show a check valve however autozone shows a check valve for it for $89 any ideas where the relay is,this thing is driving me nuckin futs!
