Playing MP3 disks

I have an 07 GT with the 6-disk Monsoon. I thougth these were capable of playing MP3 disks. I put one MP3 on a disk for a test and nothing played. I put the same disk into my friends Hyundai that plays MP3 and there is no problem. So two questions.

Should my car be able to play MP3s? The owners manual seems to indicate MP3's should play.

Is there some kind of folder structure needed on the disk?

So...did a little more looking. Apparently the owners manual has information on playing MP3s on the 6 disk CD changer but it actually doesn't play MP3s. WTF???
 
I thought the same thing when I bought my '07 GXP. It was actually a minor buying point for me but apparently the salesman didn't know what he was talking about. The single disc player plays MP3's, but the 6 disc changer does not. I don't get it either and was bummed. I just decided upgrade and put a Pioneer Avic X910bt in for $420
