Pioneer head unit

I have an 06 Grand Prix GXP. Just bought a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS head unit. Thinking it would be simple to install like in my old truck, I take the factory radio out and wow there are a ton of wires. I have no clue where to even start with this. If someone could help me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

you can buy a pig tail that plugs into the factory plug, the wire from it are labeled, so theres no guess work.

and you'll need one of them adapters to make the door dings and steering wheel controls still work. most loose the clock too iirc when they do a aftermarket HU.

Is it possible to send me a link to the wiring harness I'll need?? I was looking earlier and couldn't seem to find. Thanks guys!

Yup it's not exactly simple. Your going to lose the calender feature on the DIC but who needs that anyways. Your going to need to correct module to retain the door chimes, onstar etc as well as one if you want to keep your steering wheel controls. It gets pricey.

I have the Monsoon system and Onstar. I bought an adapter to keep the steering wheel controls but still don't even understand how to hook that up. I was thinking just speaker wires to connect but nope, bunch more wires.

ahhh, moonson. you gonna want to just flat out run new speaker wires to the speakers. the new HU wont like the factory wires to the speakers.

Let me see if I can find you the right harness if not I know I believe spazz on here deals with a lot of installs and can probably chime in.

Haha oh great that's not good. Alright thanks man! I really didn't know how much stuff I'd have to buy just to put in an after market head unit.

It's never that simple w/ modern day cars now. Hell I have had my steering wheel module installed for 4 years and have yet to bother programming it. I tried the first day and gave up :(

Here's the harness wiring

Radio 12v orange + radio harness
Radio Ground black/white - radio harness
Radio Ignition (Class 2 Serial Data)
Radio Illumination gray (dimmer) + radio harness
Factory Amp Turn-on same as power antenna wire
Power Antenna purple + radio harness
LF Speaker +/- tan - gray +,- radio harness or amplifier
Notes: The amplifier is under the rear deck.
RF Speaker +/- lt. green - dk. green +,- radio harness or amplifier
LR Speaker +/- brown - yellow +,- radio harness or amplifier
RR Speaker +/- dk. blue - lt. blue +,- radio harness or amplifier

Trust me neither did I. What went from a simple...I want subs and still want to keep everything stock...went to completely gutting all the monsoon crap and running 2 amps, aftermarket speakers, aftermarket headunit. It became way more expensive then I thought it would be.

Thanks! Yes I wanted a nice headunit and I mainly want it for my subwoofer. The steering wheel control is the Axxess ASWC. I saw a video on YouTube of a guy using the same one and the same headunit I bought. He was also putting it in a Grand Prix haha.

It may point out how crappy the stock speakers are...lol at least that's what happened to me. Don't want to scare you but figured ill let you know.

Well I replaced the 6.5"s about a week after I got the car with some Rockford Fosgate speakers. Planning on replacing the rear speakers some time haha. Just wondering if there is an adapter that would be able to just hook into the factory plug ins and hook to this radio or if I'm going to be messing with wires??

To make it easy on yourself as well as probably sound a lot better. I would just unhook the the Monsoon amp and run new speaker wires from each speaker to the headunit. Probably easier to do it now since your replacing the headunit anyways. that way the new speakers will run off the pioneer headunit instead of the factory crap and sound way better.

hey! thats what i said. lol

everyone who does this has some sound issue using the factory speaker wires. the speakers should be changed too, something about using different power levels or some crap that i dont understand fully.

It would probably get rid of a few wires taking that amp out wouldn't it?? I just don't understand what all these wires are for lol. I know there's Onstar and what not but dang there's just too many wires for me to understand it.
