Performance Shift Not Working

I have a 1998 GTP and the performance shift stopped working. The button on the shifter doesn't stay engaged and the light on the cluster doesn't come on. Even if I hold the button, nothing happens. Any ideas where to start? Thanks.
 


Thanks, I'll do that. At first glance I can't see how the shifter knob comes off. Do I have to remove the entire console?
