Perfomance shift wont stay on?

I have a 97 gtp and about 500mi into a 7000mi jaunt around the country, my performance shift turned off on the dic.
If i hit the button it comes on but as soon as i let off the button, it goes back off.
I think when i had my pcm tuned we put perf shift on permanantly, but its kind of weird.
Any ideas?

sounds like your button is broken. it's supposed to have push on / push off action.
