hey i just put a tranny from a 97 gp into my 200 gpse 3100. i understand that i need to have my pcm re programmed. is it safe to drive it to a mechanic to have them program it. do i need to have it towed or is there a cheep way that ican do it myself at home.

only way to do it cheep from home is to get a hypertech like tuner to plug into yoru pcm and make the changes yourself, but you need to know the exact ratio you are changing it to, other than that you have as i stated in your trans post, 1) send it off to be re-programed, 2) get a 97 pcm 3) get a whole new pcm programed to your liking.

i said Hypertech LIKE Tuner, i know better reading on here than to suggest a hypertech unit to someone, i will get torched.

Most mechanics won't be able to do it for you. It requires a HPTuner suite or a DHP Powrtuner. Even a dealer won't be able to do it since their Tech2 isn't designed for that sort of thing.

so i think it will be easier to get a pcm from a 97 gp. is there any certain 97 gp pcm i need to get. also the pcm is the same as the ecu correct. i believe my tranny is the 4t65 hd. i did not know if it would make a diference.

There is no PCM that will work with your 3.1L and have the 2.93 gear ratio of the 4T65E-HD tranny already programmed in. No matter what you'll have to do some PCM programming with tuning software.

Two things, is it safe to atleast start the cars and drive in first. Also does anyone know of any performance shops here in georgia in the south metro atlanta area?

You can drive it, but it won't shift at the right points and will start banging into gears as it shifts once the PCM sets the trouble code. This would've been a lot easier if you had just found the right tranny and sold that HD. The "HD" part isn't really going to do anything for you.
