Paint Removal.

Hes going to re-do the hood, without a doubt.

But I plan on re-painting my front bumper so I wouldnt mind learning this myself. Plus, I dont want this to happen again.

If it turns out bad, Ill send it back to the guy that originally did it.

Its $3.00 (+/-) at most stores Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Auto Suppliers, etc... makes a world of difference, less finger fatigue, straighter lines, more control, fewer runs from over-lapping, its amazing. Buy one.

Steps look good to me, that's what I did. Except on the "Spray on paint. Wet sand with possibly 1200+ grit paper. Do this 3 times", I would spray a couple light layers, with wait time inbetween, then a good medium layer, let it dry for a while do another good medium layer and then let dry over night and then wet sand lightly with 1200 +/- and clear.

When I painted my cover I let it dry really well in between spray (several hours) took several days time, and didn't wet sand it once I started painting. Might have not been the "proper" way to do it, but it turned out well for me. I did make sure to wipe it down with a microfiber before I sprayed each time, made sure the surface was clean of dust and debris so no spots would show up.

You can wet sand between layers, as long as you don't go through each layer it shouldn't hurt anything. I know pro painters that don't sand except at the start and at the end, and some that wet sand between each point, so its really up to you and how you think its going depending on the situation.

I understand wanting to try it yourself, but that guy screwed it up and should fix all of it correctly. Buy some other parts and try some body work on it and not your good parts.
 
yeah its true dan. id let him redo it properly since it is his mistake.

knowing how to paint stuff tho is a skill you will never regret knowing.
 
^ This is true. If he is willing to do it all for free and do it proper, I'd let him, but I'd have him do it all.

I just like the idea of knowing how to do most things so you don't have to take small projects to big people and pay for the work when you can do it all over time in the garage. Whole car, yeah, go to a body shop, but pieces can be done in a few days with patience and time and as Jordo said, its a trade you will never regret knowing.

Just up to you bro. But if you let him do it, don't sand it, let him to the fix so he knows where it chipped and where he needs to focus on.
 


If it happens again you can tell him to go back to school because he sucks and needs to be retaught. Then you can do it yourself
 
i say you do it yourself dan and if you mess up then you can just bring it to him and have it done for free. it's kind of a win win since if you do mess up then you know you need more practice and either way you can still get it redone for free.
 


What color is the middle part of the front/rear fascias.

The "silver" part.

Is it the Silvermist Metallic - WA331D or the Dark Bronze Metallic - WA528F
 
I don't think its either actually.

I know its not the Silvermist. That is the color of my car, and its not that silvery. The Dark Bronze I don't think is right either. I'll have to look around, a couple people have mentioned in threads about painting parts and what the color was, I think its a close match to a graphite grey metallic but even my GM paint catalog doesn't say what it was.
