P log vs PEM

I've intended to put Pace Setters on for some time now. Even though they are cheap ( which is right in my wheel house) I would likely want them ceramic coated, so there we go with the price again.

I currently have P&P and wrapped manifolds (F&R). These helped reduce a bit of KR I got after installing the 3.4 pulley.

I have changed my mind many times but I am fairly certain that I now want to to go with a P log for the front and retain my ported rear manifold.

Will there be enough difference from the PEM to the P log to make it worth my effort and money? I am also considering a ported stocker or 72 mm TB as well.

I will never try to hit anything quicker than mid to low 13's with this car.

Thanks,

Dean

The PLog will definitely put through more air than your current PEM. You can only scrape out so much of the PEM till it becomes brittle and breaks. The PLog was designed from the inside/out to give you the max air flow in that design of Manifolds.

Like you, I thought about just doing the 3" DP and a PLog, but after much debate, I have decided to go the headers route. Cause sooner or later you are gonna get that itch to want to hit the low 13's or maybe even high 12's. I know some folks got those times on PEMs but that was with good tuning ontop of other modifications/track conditions etc.

For the price of a ceramic coated PLog, you are already at $200 bucks roughly. And for about $300 more you can get set of coated PS's from Wbody or ZZP. So I have been saving my pennys to at least get to that price range for the PS's maybe if the Bank Gods allow, some SLPs :)

As for your 72mm TB, I was kinda turned off to that, even though I had gotten my LS1 TB just recently, due to the fact others have said to really gain the performance of the TB, you best to be cammed to make full use of the increased Airflow. So currently I am just running stock TB that has been ported out a little bit and smoothed out to increase the air flow and gain a little bit more input.

I am sure there are other out there that give you way better advise and numbers that I dont have. But I am kind of in the same place you are right now :)

Don't waste your time IMO, this coming from a guy who ran PEMs for years, do it right, get the headers and be done....

If I had it to do over I would have stayed with my Plog, stock rear mani and Hogan DP.

Anything other than a stock TB will likely not be beneficial until you are running a 3.0 pulley or smaller. One of the big tuners that holds tuning classes across the US and is currently a GM OEM caibration engineer had some interesting things to say about porting stock TB and or installing a larger TB.

And what did he have to say Lee? I am curious to know :)

Readers Digest version = :th_thumb-down: The long indepth part is the reason(s) why. Call me and I'll do my best to explain. If it doesn't make sense then, maybe a good friend of ours that attended one of his seminars recently will at the next mod day. I'll not put him on the spot, since he doesn't post here very often.
