Overkill MAF upgrade - 6 wheel horsepower gain

The JMB fenderwell intake was the best one, however the larger maf is welcome addition to the already anemic ls4 maf if you look above I made a sticky about this a while bsck

I see what your saying.. at that point Id just get the overkill intakeor the intense fwi, bolt it up and call it done.. although yours is probably more effective..

Ive had parts and tunes ( canned ) from WIll in the past and have been pretty impressed on my s/c ssei and grand prix. So not doubting it, but the whole setup seems to contradict what you dont want to do, as far as intake placement

Yea the heat soak takes place very fast on the ls4 platform. I cut my fender brace out with tin snips. So my filter sits there. I have roof flashing that seals it up. ~60-70 bucks total in the whole setup for me
 
The whole point of an aftermarket intake is to provide more oxygen for the fuel to burn. Cooler denser air can be more oxygen rich however people definitely go overboard trying to draw in what they think is much cooler air that what flows around the engine bay at speed. Focusing on getting max air flow into the engine has been a recipe for success for me, that means short and smooth bore tubing and appropriately large diameter tubing (MAF included). There's sufficient air exchange at speeds above 30mph in my opinion to feed the cone filter cool enough air, the filter stays cleaner in this location which provides good airflow, and the filter doesn't have to fight against negative air pressures which can be the case with some CAI enclosures.
 
OK, it stays cool above 30 mph. So its one of those roll racing intakes?

I could see if you have a ls6 intake, and a larger tb , how it would all work together , but it just seems no matter what air intake goes on it 5", 6" or whatever , its still bottlenecked at the tb/intake.

Like I said. Not dogging it, just wondering where it is beneficial to us who are driving less than 30 mph in heavy traffic on hot 80*+ days. Or even people who race theirs who are sitting , and waiting to race. To bad nobody makes a nice intercooler for these as the zzp one I have seen drop temps dramatically in the 3800s. I realize its a n/a car but lower temps never hurt any car.
 


The old adage on the LS4s is that the TB/Intake manifold is the bottle neck and it isn't worth upgrading the MAF until you upgrade those as well. That's why I dyno tested it. The MAF was worth 6 wheel horsepower.
