• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Over heating?

My car today after about 13 min of driving said that the temp was 260! What is up with this its not even hot out. First 6 min was at 75mph and then I drove through a car lot stopped looked at 4 cars and then left and the rest of the way home I was doing 40mph. When I got home it was hot fans full blast and all. What would cause this like I said its not even hot out here.

could be a thermostat stuck closed, when the car is at 260. check the radiator hoses, the top one particularly, you must be careful though this may be super -hot, also check the radiator, but same warning about temp..

If both are only luke warm, like 85 - 115 degrees the thermostat is most likely stuck closed

and no air in the system. When was the last time the t stat was changed? If it's been a while go ahead and replace it (they are under $10 usually)

It has a blown head gasket or intake gasket. The coolant is all in the oil. I took it to a shop to day and they said it will cost 500$ or 900$. I will be getting her back all fixed by the end of the week.

Yeah, LIM gasket had it go on my old 3.1, $40 part, burried all the way at the center of the motor, ive changed the one in my moms van so many times I've got it down to under 4 hrs

Yes, the 3.1 and 3.4s are known for their LIM gaskets going, just as much as the 3.8 are. I did one on my wife's malibu. Not a hard job. Just takes time. My first time it took me about 8 hours. But I take my time and work slow.

my first try took 4 weeks(1.5 hours per day at school) and had to be torn down right away, because the new one leaked :th_bangheadonwall:

this same thing happen to mine and it cost around 8XX.XX

my '00 se had the LIM gasket went last fall, around 7xx, I wish I would have had the time to fix it myself but school had just started...

Awww man that sucks dude and the 3100's and 3400's are prone for this not the 3.4 thats a whole different ball game right there with that engine. I hope you caught it in time to save the engine bearings.

They said at the shop all is good with it now. The fixed it and said it ran great.
Now I owe my parents 550 bucks.

I would highly HIGHLY recommend you change your oil out as soon as possible even if it was done at the shop. The reason for this is that coolant is very persistent inside a motor. That is to say that it hides in places, adheres to things and could still be in enough volume to cause issues if not flushed out. Doing a couple quick oil changes will greatly reduce any risk from any remaining contamination.

Do one as soon as you get it home, then maybe another in 500 miles or so. Im kinda anal about this since Ive seen from oil analysis how long coolant can persist in an engine so others may have different recommendations that I would take into account as well.

I agree with Scotty even though a shop says its all good it's better to be safe than sorry. Change the oil and filter just like Scotty said and just watch the temps and check your oil to make sure it's all out. It's cheaper to take pre-cautions than to buy a new motor.:)

Ya I am going to change it in 100 miles which will be like next week. I checked it today and it looked all good. I drove it today and it felt the best I have ever have.
