Outer CV Joint Boot

The little metal ring that tightens the end of the outer boot on the CV Axle snapped on my car leavin my wheel well and wheel along with everything else back there coated in grease. Before I replace that metal band should I add skme more grease to the inside of that boot? And if so what kind of grease should i use?
