Out of sheer curiosity

Out of sheer curiosity why does a 3800 Series II S/C limit revs to 4K in Park and Neutral? the car normally revs to 6k+ under WOT. I haven't tried holding the brake in Drive or First yet (a little gun shy lol) Is this a Launch function? My previous car ( VW Jetta) could rev on to the Red-line in all gears (it was a manual). Older DSG cars will rev to 4500 when the brake is pressed. Just wondering.

Without a load the car revs much easier, so I imagine that's why it's set lower.. There's really no reason to rev it that high though.
All gm(and many others) cars have been this say for a long time.

Ok makes sense. I grew up on Fords :th_lipssealed2: I have bought the first GM and VW for that matter, in my family. How I found it when I forgot it was in Park and tried to take off, it stopped at 4k, kinda caught me off guard. Expected it to fly to the Red when I slipped up. Im used to a manual lol Its a great safe guard.

That would be why I asked here, Auto-Trans cars are not known for integrity. When I was just getting my license I would rev the crap out of my jetta... the GTP will have a much, much better life I promise you. I'm surprised the VW lasted as long as it did lol poor thing
