Old Pontiac Owner New to the forum - questions

Hello -I am somewhat new to this forum but an old time Pontiac owner.
I am a big fan of the "Members Rides" sub forum.

Have a few questions, my car has now crossed the 115k mile threshold,my previous Pontiac had almost 350k when my roommate forgot about it in the theater and was towed to it's death, and i'd like to start working on fixing it myself.

For starters ill refrain from going under the hood but I've set myself 3 mini projects.
1) I will change the headlights
2) The drivers side power window
3) The brake pads and add a disc rotor cover and change disc rotors if required.
Once I understand more I will delve more and more into these DIY type tasks.

In your opinion whats the best way to start these tasks?
For starters I have ordered a Haynes Pontiac manual, have watched many many Youtube videos.
How did you guys start? can you give me some tips and advice?

I am a mechanical engineer but haven't touched that subject in over 25 years.
