can someone tell me where the oil pump is in a 97 grand prix gt v6 3.8??? ive found a couple of things online but they are showing it in the oil pan for the 3.1 and 3.4... is it the same for the 3.8??? any help would be appreciated.... i just bought the car today at a steal and need to change the oil pump out asap... thanks

I'm sure you have but I'm going to ask anyway. Have you changed the oil and more importantly have you changed the filter? How do you know there is no oil coming to the top of the engine?

to be honest i bought the car today and havent really had a chance to look at it yet... the guy i bought it from said he just changed the oil...... he said that he and a mechanic buddy looked at it and they didnt think it was getting oil to the top end of the engine... im not sure how they came to that conclusion..... he said the oil pump was bad and it needs a couple of fuel injectors... at this point i could scrap it for what i paid for it.... so i figure its worth a shot changing out the oil pump and if thats not the problem then just cut my losses

Yeah sounds like you got half the story too....Don't ya hate that when that happens? I would do an oil change to it, making sure to change the filter. Depending on what the deal is, you now know where the pump is but keep in mind, the pickup could possibly be plugged too, that would be the second thing I check before doing a pump. That involves taking off the oil pan and physically looking at it.

It's interesting that they told you that 2 injectors were bad, that worries me. I wouldn't have a lot of faith in this engine. The GP is a good car and the 3800 is a great engine. Of course like all things they last a long time if they have been taken care of properly. If all else fails and you don't think you can trust that engine, spending a little to get a new/used replacement should be an option. Good luck and let us know how it works out.
