oil pressure

Just bought an 04 GP GT with 3800. this only happened 2x once when just starting engine and it seemed to go to low rpm for a few sec. and the other time when i made a quick stop from hiway speed. The low oil pressure warning came on the dic. it went out after a short time. is this something i should be concerned with? Is there a known problem with the sensor? The manual says thet the light may come on after a sudden stop it is normal. there is no clanking noises coming from the engine when the light came on...any suggestions??Dan

Check your oil level, first! If you're low on oil, you can have low pressure at certain times. If the level looks good, try changing the oil and put a good quality filter on it. If you still have a problem, there may be some internal problems.
My car did that for about two weeks, with me trying everything I could think of to get pressure back up, before it started making noises. It ended up that I spun both of my inner cam bearings, one of which made it's way out of its hole and proceeded to be smashed repeatedly by a cam lobe and a lifter.

Thanks Dan the oil was ok (actually it was 1 liter over full) i drained out the liter and it hasnt happened since.) i heard too much oil can cause oil pressure lights too. i have a 2 year powertrain warranty but they dont cover things like warning lights, but if i blow the engine its covered (go figure). i will try the oil and filter and keep an eye on it. it was suggested to put a guage to see the actual pressure and if its ok it is probably the sensor, do those have a habit of going flaky????....

I would definitely put a gauge on it to check it out. I haven't heard a lot about the gauges on our cars going out much. Of course, a lot of people I know just remove the factory unit and replace it with a gauge.
