oil life meter will not reset

I have an 06 gp 3800 and i cannot get the oil life to reset and it annoys the hell out of me is there any other ways to do this out than just the reset button on the D.I.C.

Key to ON, gas pedal 3 times all the way down within 5 seconds.

I had to do that once too. The regular reset has worked fine since that time though.
