Oil Leak

I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at. I have a photo from underneath the car:

the red zip tie is around the tube that's leaking. Sorry for the horrible camera phone pic, I don't have a point and shoot and I don't want to ruin my wife's SLR trying to get under the car.

Follow that tube on the right side of the of the zip tie. It then goes vertical and into the transmission. It's leaking from where the tube goes vertical and connects to the housing. What am I looking at and what do I need to buy to stop this leak? The fluid didn't appear red like I'm used to for tranny fluid. It looked like engine oil. This is on the drivers side of the engine and towards the front.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If need be I'll try and get better photos later in the day. I'm in the middle of doing some maintence work and don't want to stop right now.

I was just looking at those fittings on my car like 2 weeks ago during an oil change. They looked so cheesy I was afraid to touch them. :th_nervous:

Any how those are your transmission lines to the radiator, and I would say your fitting is bad. I know on some cars you can tighten them, but I don’t think that is the case for us.

What I would do is go get a bottle of Lucas stop slip (or similar product) and see if that helps.

If not just keep an eye on it and add fluid as necessary. Then have the fittings replaced at your next pan tranny pan drop, it shouldn’t be much extra.
 
Those tubes did appear to head strait toward the radiator. So that is tranny fluid I'm seeing then? How often should the tranny filter and fluid be changed? This car has 70k on it now.

Ya believe it; those lines do go to your radiator. I’m 99% sure it is tranny fluid, not much else it could be. I can’t be sure without seeing it myself.

Your in luck, now is the perfect time to change your fluid and replace the filter anyway. Well ~75k is what I aim for, but I'm crazy like that. I like my trannys to last more than a year or two after the warranty expires.
 
I guess I'll find out what it costs when I go to work Monday. To keep my service department honest, what does a filter and fluid change typically cost?
 
Well around these parts the service is typically $100. However, Dexron 6 tranny fluid isn’t cheap and you will be charged extra for it. But that is the fluid you want.:th_thumbsup-wink: So what ever the going rate per quart times 7. Those fittings shouldn’t cost more than $30 installed. Total estimate ~$150-180
 


Send and return cooling lines were toast. Had everything replaced associated with them and it cost $145.
