oil channel plug missing from block 98 GS

So I have repeatedly had this issue wwith losing oil knowing my engine never used/burned any until this last oil change. I started having this issue with oil all over the front of my engine too. Nothing insane but it started affecting my belts badly. Tonight i had a suspicion about a threaded hole right under my intake manifold and washed everything down at the car wash. Sure enough i had another light trail leading down from it after returning home. so i popped the hood on my 98 GTP and it has a hex plug in the same hole. I am guess it is a return port since I never got any negative side effects and its been atleast 4k miles.

Anywho, does anyone know the thread pitch sizes for this hole so i can fill it? or if all 3800's have this. I could easily swing by the Pull and pay after work.

Are you talking about the hole next to the coil pack, just above the timing cover/water pump area?

On this Bonneville motor, there's a stud in it. On a GP, you either need a plug or it's a bolt for the ground.

thats exactly it. I guess i've gone longer without it than i thought and just lost more oil from it this time around. The motor in my regal is from a 98 bonneville ssei so i guess when my buddy switched accessories during the swap he didn't catch it. As well as myself...
Thanks Bill! Huge help!

It's probably a 10 x 1.5 thread. Nearly any GM bolt that's the right size will work.

IIRC that's where the ground wire would typically go on a stud and nut situation.

good to know, i probably have a couple around. If not i'll just pull the one in my gtp and head to the hardware store. Thanks for all the help bill!
