OBD1 3100 into a OBD2 3400 car

NR92

long story short my parents have a 95 grand am beater, the motor was rebuilt 70k miles ago and head gaskets on up have been redone less then 1k miles ago, found out the car after 250k miles has some serious body rust going on in the rear that is a safety issue and not worth fixing

so in search of a new body for the motor, first i was kinda kicking around a 96-98 grand am because they are dirt cheap and have obd2, then i got to thinking about the 99+ body style and the only issue i am worried about is if its possible to convert a obd1 motor to obd2, after trying to get set up on the grand am forums and seeing them think its easy to make a rwd 455 big block grand am work i lost hope of them helping me...
So my question is will obd1 motor work in a obd2 car not worried about the extra trouble just if its possible

thanks

Most likely it will. I know the 3800's from the 95 year (technically Obd 1.5 for these) were easy to transplant as it was the same motor, just a different pcm controlling it. One way you might find out if it's a straightforward swap would be to check car-part..com for the 3.1L car you are going to toss the motor into and if 1995's pop up, then you know it's considered the same motor.

ok thats what i was hoping for, as long as it can be done, swaping over sensors and some electronics isnt a big deal to me, if anyone can find any info that would be awesome
