new to the forum, not new to the grandprix.

when i turn the key nothing happens and after about 5 to 10 sec. it starts, but only half the time.
any help would be appreciated ty

What do you drive?

When you say nothing happens.. does the engine crank? (cause..that's something happening and how can it start w/o cranking)

Does it turn over and not fire? Does it just click? Does it click continuously then start?

Sorry more info is needed.

I'm with him ^
Or just find where the starter is and hit it with something and see if it starts, that's the actual mechanics test lol

and sorry about the Confusion i was not thinking when i typed this its not cranking does nothing. but i think it is the starter or the soleniod is bad, only thing that had me dumb founded is when i would run the battery down it would wait about 5 10 sec then pull all that it could and then start. then it started doing it with a good battery. ty for your help guys gals. oh yah im driven a 98 gtp prix with 3.2 pully and supporting mods. with 210,000 miles.

so the starter and the soloniod is not its. any suggestions? i held the key in start position for 20 sec and it started finally, but wont do it again

Maybe your ignition is going bad. I would take a voltmeter positive to the purple wire on the starter and neg to ground and see if youre getting voltage while someone holds the key forward. Also make sure the ground strap going from the starter to the solenoid is tight.

have you tried to move the key back and fourth while in the start position? if you do that and it starts up , i would think its the ignition switch its self.

you can also jump the solenoid on the starter to start the car up, if that works its not the starter. key has to be in the run position when jumping the starter.

$175 dollars later and starter is new boo hoo but still no run so ill try the volt meter and ty for the info. Yall are great.
.

Did you get the starter done at a shop? Cause I know they are only like 80-100, at least when I did mine last September.
