Not how I wanted to spend my Sunday

So as the title states this is not what I had planned for my Sunday. Sunday is the only real day I get to sleep in and kinda be lazy. There I was sleeping ever so soundly when I get a phone call. It was my father calling saying he needed my help and to put on some cloths I didnt mind getting dirty. I was like oh crap I am going to be doing work. Well I wake up get dressed and drive to my parents house which isnt very far. As soon as I pull in the drive way I see the huge pine tree in the front yard is freakin blown to pieces from being struck by lighting, it had been raining all morning. I was like ok dad what did you need my help with. He said well as you can see we have been struck by lighting this morning. I was like yeah and.... He continued to say well it was apparently powerful enough to bust the water line somewhere cause we have no water pressure. So I spent my whole morning tracking down a busted water main which would not have been as hard if all the ground wasnt wet already but it was so we pretty much had to dig up the whole line to find it which was like a good 50ft of trench before we found it. Well of coarse we didnt have the correct parts to fix it. So we ride 20 minutes into town to lowes get the parts and head back home. Once we got back it was an easy fix. Not really how I wanted to spend my day, but it could have been worse. My parents lost everything electronic as well in their house, including there 2 computers and the brand new 42 inch Sony lcd tv they just bought 2 months ago. And of coarse it was on superbowl sunday so my dad didnt even get to watch the game, so it could have been worse for me.

That does suck. I just imagine how dreary and back breaking that work was. And its not that the work is bad or that you didnt mind doing it, its the fact it happens on a day you expect to be able to kick back and relax.

Im the same way. I have no problem getting dirty, helping out and so on, but it just gets under my skin to have a day, that I planned on taking to relax and enjoy the time, ruined by stuff like that. But what can you do, its your parents.

Aww man that does suck.. But be glad there house wasn't hit. But no one ost life and limb. No one got cut so its good. You hate my job my friend a pipe layer.

Yeah it could have been alot worse. The craziest thing was that on the Thursday before a tree close to there power line got struck behind the house. It was alot farther away but it blew out their cable box and modem. I was talking to them on the phone that day and we were like yeah just glad it didnt get the tv and other stuff and then it did. The irony was awesome. Everything is covered in there home owners insurance. They are even paying them like 36 dollars for the plumbing we fixed ourselves 16 dollars for parts 2 hours of labor at 10 dollars an hour which I thought was pretty awesome. So all is good but still sucked none the less.
