Noob Here: 03 GTP parts on a 04 GT?

Hey guys,

I'm a new driver and the owner of a 2004 Grand Prix GT, automatic.

I've found a guy who's selling a 2003 GTP automatic for $500. He claims it has a blown head gasket. It has the exact same amount of kilometers as my car (235k, or 146k miles).

I know there was quite the change going from the 03 to the 04, such as body and the engine going from series 2 to series 3.

My questions are:
- Would a lot of parts from the 03 be compatible on my car or no? If so, are there some examples? Would at least the supercharger be compatible?
- In your guys' opinions, would this be a good car to buy for parts, or even to fix up?

It's for $500 CAD, which is basically $380 in US dollars. And if I sold it for scrapping I could get about $200 (CAD).

I'm a new driver, new GP owner, new to this forum, and I'm new to cars in general. So I apologize if I posted this in the wrong spot or if I'm asking a ridiculous question.
I tried to do a bit of searching on this topic before posting but I didn't have any luck.

Thanks :)

Some parts will work but not the major parts like: Supercharger (youd need the lim off the donor car + its a smaller blower overall so less power)

04 has the drive by wire standard ( I believe)

I also believe they did away with the L67 in 03 too so the engine is overall a little different.

Sense the car is so cheap I'd try to fix it up and flip it with the low miles and all.

Lastly, they head gaskets are rarely a problem on these cars so double check that its not a bad LIM gasket or anything like that, see if its had any recalls done too... Basically check the whole car over before taking it on, if these cars have been neglected they can be a hassle to get back to normal.

Good luck!

Yes, certain parts would fit but it would require alot of work.

The cylinder heads, intake manifold, balancer, idler bracket and such would have to be swapped if you wanted to supercharge it. I think you'd need a L32 fuel rail because the L67 rail is for a return style system, you have returnless. The throttle body would need an adapter for the GEN 3 supercharger I believe. Aftermarket headers should be a must because the L26 in your car is a high compression motor compared to the L67/L32 cars and you need to have better flowing exhaust.

Then after a bunch of other changes and various things to buy you need to still somehow tune the car for the changes. The computer and motor were never suppose to be supercharged from the factory so it needs a tune to run correctly and not blow up.

And honestly because you are new to cars and working on them, I'd suggest you not do a mod with these challenges right away.

I'd buy the car and fix it and flip it. Blown head gaskets isn't very common on a 3800, the lower intake manifold fails first and sends coolant into the oil and or coolant into the intake and it burns it out the tail pipe.
