Noisy Supercharger

I really don't want to know the answer to this question but i can't help it: The charger on my car seems to be getting louder as time goes on. The oil level is ok, can anyone tell me what I can expect to deal with? I'm guessing bearings and resurfacing perphaps???

THanks

ahhh, if you could describe the sounds, maybe we could help some.

is it at idle only? goes away when you give it gas? if so thats the coupler.

other way to determine if its the blower to remove all the belts and see if the sound is gone, take the sc belt of first, if you still hear it, take the other belt off and run it for no more then a minute or so, as your water pump is not working and the will over heat.

while the belts are off grab the sc pulley, now snap it left and then right hard, if you feel it click thats the coupler.

When my coupler was bad it made a rattling noise. Napa or oreilly has them. But I would go to GM dealership and get the supercharger oil. It's what's recommended. But it's a bit on the high side for price. Also you will need 2 bottles.

f the dealer for the coupler, get a green one off e bay. you can get gm oil off line too if your dealer rapes you like mine does at $25 a bottle. and you need 2.

dorman couplers blow dick.

Have a look at this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eaton-GM-Fo...Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e9135f2a9&vxp=mtr

That's 2 bottles of oil + coupler for $30 + shipping.

The couplers this guy sells are great, I've had one in my Gen 3 for 50,000 miles, no signs of trouble at all. The coupler appears to be made of a better material than OEM, and the coupler design is simpler/stronger. The OE/dorman designs have raised areas to help you line up the pins with the holes. In this design, the whole coupler is the full thickness of where the raised areas would be. Just takes a bit more care to line up the holes properly.

Dorman couplers do suck, mine lasted only a few months before it was noisey.

Lucky for me I don't give a crap and just rocked it without a care. I have a eaton green coupler in my spare supercharger on the shelf.

Thanks for all the help. So does the noisy charger really hurt anything? If not, it doesn't bother me. I kinda like it.

just change it, the car will thank you. you dont think you feel it now, but after a new one is one you'll feel the difference.
