noisy injector....I think

Hello,

I have a 2002 3100. I know about piston slap but I also have a ticking noise and using my mechanics stetsoscope it is loudest when placed on near the "3" on the cover. The valve covers arent loud at all. The fuel rail closest to the firewall is loud. Louder than the fuel rail closer to the front. I put the stethoscope on the black pieces coming from the fuel rail and they are we're all of equal ticking.

Any suggestions on how to get this noise to stop? Some additive? replace an injector? I havent looked up how to replace an injector yet.

Thanks!

Mike

You can try using some sort of injector cleaner in the fuel tank or even use trans fluid in the fuel tank to clean the injectors. If you go the trans fluid way, change the fuel filter after just to be safe, it will clean the fuel lines and injectors as it goes throughout the system.

Or remove the fuel rail, swap the back 3 injectors with the front 3 and see if the noise changes spots.

Thanks, I need to drive it more. Could it be a rod? I need to drive it some tomorrow and then listen to it warm, damn piston slap noise gets in the way. My piston slap, if that's what it is, is really loud in cold weather and it takes about 10 minutes to reduce.

Thanks
