Noise coming from steering wheel????

I have a 2006 GP GT and recently I have noticed a real annoying sound coming from my steering column area. It is not from outside in the engine bay or anything. I have heard this sound before on other GM cars it is a real quiet whizz or whirr or whine sound. :th_wtf:LOL I don't even know how to describe it. I will try to get a video with sound to show what I am talking about. All I know is it is real annoying. Anyone know what I am blabbing on about and know what causes it. It did not make this sound less than a month ago!

I currently own an 05 GP, maybe I can help. It may be something as simple as your power steering pump whining, even though it sounds like it's coming from the steering wheel. GM is notorious for power steering pumps that whine. But I think I know the mysterious steering wheel whine that you're referring to...I'm experiencing the same problem. It almost sounds like something rubbing against the steering wheel while you're turning it. It almost sounds like a rubber squeaking type of noise. I don't know if it is a lubrication issue inside the steering wheel somewhere or what... But im going to address this problem along with some other issues at my next oil change at the dealership...

I have a 07 and mine does the sammmeeee thing!!!!! And its not my Power steering checked it already sooo I hope you guys do find out what it is!

I have a 97 Grand Prix 3800 NA and I thought it was the power steering. but when I was looking for Vacuum leaks with a vacuum hose stuck in my ear I isolated the sound to the AC compressor.

So did anyone ever find a solution to this problem??? It's driving me nuts...I'm about to pull the inside of my car apart until I find that sound.

If it sounds like skin rubbing on the sides of the bathtub, then I have it too. It's either the clock spring or the boot around the upper ISS u-joint. A lot of GM vehicles have it, and I'm leaning towards it being the clock spring myself.
