no rpm gauge and tcs light wont go off

Can anyone help me I am trying to figure this out.
When I start up my 01 gtp its fine after driving it for about 10 minutes or so the rpm gauge goes to zero and the tcs light comes on. The car is still running and shifts fine I can actually feel the traction control disengauge though.
Any thoughts or ideas what this could be I have never really messed with electrical things on a car and there is no check engine light so I can't look up the codes

Its going to be your Crankshaft Position Sensor. Pretty soon, your car will start shutting off while driving. It doesnt usually throw codes until it goes out completely. Replace the sensor and be done with it.

Thanks. Do you know if this is something not too bad to do myself? I have the tools a I'm pretty good with working on cars. I have never changed a crankshaft sensor though

You will need a puller to get off the harmonic balancer. Here is where the sensor is located.

I had the same problem but mine also will flip out then go to zero. So I changed the sensor and its still doing the same thing. Im also noticing that i lose power once in a while. feels unresposive and powerless like a cavelier. Any help is appreciated.

I had the same issue turns out it was the ICM which I had changed first when that did not work I went with the cps when it did it again I brought to the shop they checked it for 3 days (it was running fine for them, finally it did it) they said it was the icm old one was only 9 months old and it went again

Problem is gone. After I changed ICM. I got one from the wreckers for $30 out of a GP that had less mileage. And car runs like new again. No loss of responsiveness or a guage that flips out turning off the TCS. I found a website that does a walkthough to find out if it is the sensor or ICM. It was helpful and very easy to follow. Here is the link: Part 1 -GM 3.8L Ignition Module Test and Crank Sensor Test (3X, 18X). Hope this helps everyone in the future.
