No heat -- or very little

I'm semi positive this is an air-in-the-system thing, but it's cold out and we've got no heat in our 03 GT. The car warms up fine and runs great, but heat only comes out when you leave the heater off for 20 minutes of driving, and then only for about a minute. Thoughts? I'm new at this.

With the car cool, open the radiator cap. If level in the radiator is low, add coolant to the radiator until it's full.

Run the engine with the heat on high until it's up to operating temperature and the thermostat opens (you can tell by feeling the coolant hose downstream). Then, open the vent screw on top of the thermostat housing to vent the system. You may have to repeat this several times over the course of a week to get all of the air out of the system.

Afterwards, recheck the radiator level and refill if necessary. This should remove all of the air from the system.

if its stuck open the temp gauge will read low temps.

This is a VERY common GM problem that usually is fixed with a good back-flushing of the heater core.

If you need a HOW-TO let us know, one of us will post it up. Its fairly simple to do and takes only 10 minutes.

is air actually blowing out of the vents? i just had a problem with mine where the heater would only work on the 5 setting.

I'm not the one with the problem, but I wouldn't mind seeing a how to.

ya sounds like the thermostate for sure, i had to change mine it was stuck open, the heat would work but once i would start driving eventually the heat would turn cool and fluctuate, i also noticed on my car i had a descent antifreeze leak, the leak would only really show once the engine was under fairly high pressure, the leak would show , not saying thats what it is fill up the rad and definetly check your thermostate there cheap and not hard to change!
