Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

No Heat and High Temps

The rear freeze plugs look identical. Expect yours to be dirty, but they are indented circles in the block right above the oil pan. A curb has done well by me to get under a car in the past. Only thing is.. it gets tight if the curb is small.

As for the oil pan. That is possible, it's more of a pain in the neck. Oil is easy to add though, so let's start off the the cooling issue that's freezing you. If it's a freeze plug, I'm going to suggest running it past a couple of mechanics to get prices. Someone might be able to sneak in and do one w/o pulling the engine. If so the price shouldn't be huge and that's a talented dude.

I'm taking it to pep boys today to see what they say. They can at least either confirm the issue of the plugs or not.

Thanks again guys!

Pep boys came back and said it's the LIM gasket causing the leak. They also tried to charge me 70 for the gasket, 500+ in labor and then tried to convince me that I should replace the UIM and the S belt. Total package of 1100. The wanted 180 for the UIM which I can get for 104 and that'd not hard labor that takes 5 plus hours. So I'm gonna take it over a buddy's house Sunday afternoon and get it on. Thanks again everyone!!!!

id do everything they said, new intake too. the egr tube inside it cracks and it leaks. intakes are less then a 100 and the metal lim gaskets are 40 ish

when done do a oil change, drive it for a few miles and do another oil change to make sure theres no coolant in the oil.

search youtube theres a few vids on doing the lim and intake. its easy, not worth a 1100 bucks tho.

Avg price would be about 700-800 in the shop I work in, or near me.

I don't have the labor times in front of me but I'd guess it calls for atleast 4-5 hours for R&R. Not sure where they are getting another 300-400 on you.

If this is your first time going this far into a motor, it's going to take you a while and thats the only reason they call for that many hours.

Well I understand that they have to do whatever the manufacturer says is the process to fix whatever but I've seen a mechanic get the LIM gasket in 20 minutes which means there's no reason for it to take 4-5 hours. The LIM gasket isn't that hard to exchange but if you have to do the manufacturer's way by taking off the tensioner and alternator and s belt I guess I could see 5 hours of work because that tensioner is a ***** to get to. But we'll see what my buddy and I can do on Sunday.

no you didnt. 20 minutes is a hack job in a junk yard. its a 2 hr job for most who know what the f they are doing, 3 to 4 if your going in clueless.

they also charge book rate, so if their book says 8 hours, thats what they charge. how shops stay open.

Well it took us about an hour to get down to it. The gasket was pretty bad off and there were clogged ports on the LIM. What we didn't realize after we put everything back on and together was that the clogged ports had caused two holes to get bored through the LIM causeing coolant to just pour out. So it's off to a salvage yard for a 75 LIM and another couple hours of work to replace. All in all not bad. Total of about 150 for repairs that would have cost much more at a shop like pep boys or AAMCO and hopefully this fixes the problem.

On another note I feel much more comfortable with my bay and my ability to operate on my engine.

Wait.. what? Two ports on the lim. There are holes in teh heads for two ports per head. LIM only has one hole per head that it makes with the other hole dead ends.

Right. But that dead end in the LIM can get holes in it from the corrosive coolant eating away at it. I've seen it at work.

I guess I never got a pic of the holy LIM but I did get pics of the lim gaskets

Right..but if he did the work and is worried that he left something blocked. He didn't.

There are two coolant ports on the LIM they were gunked up but there are two other spots that look similar to the actual ports that were corroded enough away to look like they need to be cleared out which is where coolant was pouring through. We cleaned out the acutal ports but still needed to buy the newer one because of the holes in the area that looks like the ports but aren't. I have pictures, I'll post them later.
