No first gear, possible ECM issue?

Hey, I have a 1997 Pontiac Grandprix 2 door non-SC 3800 with 140,000 miles on it. I just had the typical no overdrive issue and had the transmission swapped out with a used one with 70,000 miles out of the exact same year model and engine. But right before the grandprix was in the shop for that, I also lost my 1st gear. If I move the selector to 1, the car does the same as if it were in 2 or D. I searched around on the web and some people had the same issue and either reflashed the ecu or swapped the ecu with one from a junk yard. Should that be my next step in trying to fix this problem? I can get the ecu out of the same GP that I got the transmission out of. But then I would have to mess with that GM passlock stuff right? Thank you

so it will not go in drive gear but will go in 1st or second? if so sounds like the forward band has taken a crap on ya.

undo your battery for about an hour and see if that helps.. this resets the PCM. car will feel funny after u drive for the first time... this is the car relearning all its parameters. i have to ask is fluid level full? whens the last time since a filter change?

I reset pcm and all that and it still didnt help. Since I just had the transmission swap done, I also had them put in and new filter. So the filters about 4 days old. I did some driving to see whats going on. While in D, It seems like I only have 3rd gear because when I shift to "1", I do have 1st gear. When I shift to "2", there is no difference (no shift, rpm change). Then when I shift it to "3" it will shift. Then when I move it to "D", it will make no difference from 3, just the rpms will go up, no 4th gear or OD. Also when the car is in "D", its doesnt shift at all.
