Hello all, I'm in the market for a new car, and I'm looking at a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged with about 81K miles, for about 8 grand. First, I would like to know if that is a good buy, and if possible how much more could i expect from it? I do know that the steering shaft was replaced early on back in 2004. Another problem is that the last reported odometer reading of 36,700 and is now at 81K. Any thoughts or ideas towards those issues and the whole car would be greatly appreciated!

That seems very high for a price for that car. Its a nice car but high miles. Im no expert on this at all. Try going to Vehix.com and see what they say its worth. Do a CarFax on it. Little pricey but pays off HUGE in the long run.

eghh.. i wouldnt say it was a steal.. but i would think average. i just bought a 04 gtp comp g for 7500 with 72000 miles on it and i thought it was a steal... as far as the steering being replaced.. i wouldnt worry about it. some things just dont go right from factory and thats probably why it was replaced. the big gap in mileage reporting is usually a good thing as it means that one personowned the car and didnt have any huge repairs done to it so obviosuly the cars runs good. it all comes down to takin the car for a ride and seeing the body. if it runs nice and looks good.. hell yeah its worth it. bit if its beat up... than no probably not

I wouldnt say that much of a gap is always a good thing...it could mean long gaps between maintenance, even for someone doing theyre own maintenance. Price is too high I think. I think I got a steal when I bought my Comp G for $5500 with just over 100k on the odo. Dealers son's car, long maintenance history etc. Thats more a price I would expect to see on a competition group than just a GTP. Try to negotiate that down atleast 1k or keep looking elsewhere. These cars are everywhere. Another thing to look for, inspect the radiator support. You can tell right away if its been replaced or if its damaged, either way its been wrecked.
